The mission of the women in military service for america memorial foundation, inc. (women's memorial foundation) is to honor the estimated 3 million women who have served in or with the u. S. Armed forces, past, present and future; document their experiences, contributions and sacrifices made while defending our nation and preserve them as a part of history in a national register; and educate the public about the history of women in the military.

The foundation's largest program service, operating and maintaining the memorial educations center, creates an environment and programs that educate the public about the contributions of military women to our country and hosts visitors throughout america and the world who come to the memorial for a variety of reasons. During 2017 the memorial welcomed an estimated 150,000 visitors as well as 63 honor flights; hosted 41 promotions, 62 retirements, 6 reenlistments, 3 commissionings, 1 enlistment, 65 memorial receptions, 57 tours and 82 events, conferences and seminars with other agencies and groups; presented major memorial and veterans day events, 2 exhibit openings and 2 days of 20th anniversary events totaling some 390 separate events and activities in 2017.
