The wisconsin society of anesthesiologists had approximately 1,050 members during 2017, of which approximately 680 were practicing physicians in wisconsin. the wisconsin society of anesthesiologists held its annual meeting at the glacier canyon lodge at the wilderness hotel in wisconsin dells, wi. After this meeting, attendees were able to 1) demonstrate the anatomy of commonly performed upper extremity, lower extremity, truncal, and neuroxial nerve blocks, 2) employ techniques to limit or potentially eliminate the need for transfusion, 3) discuss new technologies present within the cath lab and management of patients with ventricular assist devices, 4) review the physiology of ecmo and discuss recent uses of ecmo technology for cardiorespiratory support, 5) identify patients who would benefit from pecs block for chest wall surgeries, 6) explain how bedside tte could aid in anesthetic management of patients, 7) manage neuromuscular blockade with suggamadex and understand the potential pros and cons of its use, 8) describe the anesthetic management of patients with newer implantable pain treating devices, 9) explain the current medical legal issues affecting wisconsin anesthesiologists, 10) discuss what macra is and how it affects reimbursement for providers and 11) recognize when techniques utilizing tracheal tube introducers can aid in securing difficult airways. The meeting offered up to 11 accreditation council for continuing medical education (accme) continuing medical education (cme) credits and up to 9 american board of anesthesiology (aba) sam (moca part ii) credits, both provided through amedco.
