The primary purpose of the organization is to support scientific and medical research, with particular relevance to brain and spinal cord function, dysfunction, and disease. The organization is particularly involved in the biomedical research of parkinson disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (als), and other brain and spinal cord diseases. The organization also supports a museum collection of the modern history of brain research, the fulton cushing collection.
