Artesia general hospital is a 49-bed sole community health provider that serves artesia and southeastern new mexico providing general acute care, cardiology, medical and surgical services, including outpatient and emergency care services. During the tax year, the hospital had 881 admissions of which 154 were geri-psych, 3,575 patient days, 1,812 surgeries, 12,308 emergency room visits, 20,352 outpatient diagnostic visits, and 52,103 clinic visits. The hospital provides care to persons covered by governmental programs at or below cost and to individuals who are unable to pay. The unreimbursed charges of providing care to these patients was 1,857,292 for charity care, 47,141,903 for medicare, 32,562,432 for medicaid, and 25,276,883 for other third party payors for the year.
