The tucson pima arts council fosters artistic expression, civic participation, and the economic growth of the region by supporting, promoting, and advocating for arts and culture through its grants program, public art program, community arts development program, and proffessional development workshops.

"core competencies" of the arts council, consist of: 1) the grants program, which was established by the city of tucson and pima county to rationalize and create transparency and openness in the public funding process. The program now manages both public and private grant dollars, offering general operating support and project grants to the many artists and arts organizations that enliven our community. 2) the public art and community design program, established by the city and county to rationalize and create transparency and openness in the process of commissioning public art. The program manages all of the public dollars that flow through the percent of art programs of the city of tucson and pima county, overseeing artist selection and the production and installation of artwork in city and county facilities, transportation projects, neighborhood centers and parks. 3) professional development opportunities for artists and arts organizations, which include, but are not limited to: technical assistance workshops, workforce development, nonprofit assistance, artist lectures, neighborhood and community improvement projects, and other initiatives designated by the arts council board of directors. 4) advocacy, community engagement, and information services, which is primarily shared through social media and the maintenance of a robust website platform.
